Kindergarten

boyreading.jpgPhonics-Saxon Reading:
  We learn vowels, consonants, and consonant blends.  We teach sight words, K&C spelling rules, compound words, syllables and digraphs.  We practice decoding words and reading books in the classroom. 


Writing:
  We write in a journal, create stories and practicing fill in the blank promps.


math.jpgSaxon Math:
  We use math manipulatives to teach counting, patterning, money values and counting change, ordinal numbers, tangrams, graphing, addition, subtraction, geoboards, measurement, comparisons, and 1 to 1 correspondence.  Students are taught to solve story problems, tell time and write numerals.  Our Math curriculum EXCEEDS state standards.


Religion:
  Students are taught the love of Christ through Bible stories, learn the history of church holidays, sing songs and participate in prayer.  Children also begin memorizing important Bible verses beginning in the 3rd quarter.


Spanish:
  Kindergarten students participate in weekly Spanish instruction.


Social Studies:
  We study about our community and its workers, famous history makers and national holidays.

  We learn the about the life cycle and function of plants, study oceans, ocean life, insects and weather.
(Science and Social Studies are incorporated into the curriculum through the use of thematic units along with Jr. Scholastic News)


Art.jpgMusic:
  We learn about tempo and pitch, and participate in Kids of the Kingdom children’s choir for children in Kindergarten-4th grade.


Art.jpgComputer/Technology Instruction:
  Children enjoy weekly instruction time in the Computer Lab. Students are taught basic technology operations and concepts, learn to research information, solve problems and make decisions, and use productivity tools for effective communication.


Art:
  We make projects for the holiday seasons, learning the skills of painting, cutting, gluing, color mixtures, textures and expression.



Classroom Availability

  • Kindergarten classes are available M-Friday half day or full day.
  • Full Day Kindergarten classes are taught in conjunction with the Montessori classroom and consist of a half day of Kindergarten curriculum combined with a half day of Montessori curriculum.
