Policies
Achievement
Testing
Students at Gethsemane Lutheran School take the Iowa Test of Basic Skills at the end of February each year and always score
above state norms. On average our students score 12% higher than national norms.
Homework
On average, all students
can anticipate about 10 minutes of homework per grade level each night. For instance, a second grader could expect to
have about 20 minutes of total homework on an average evening; a third grader could expect to have about 30 minutes; a fourth
grade student could expect to have about 40 minutes.
Discipline
Students at GLS are expected to maintain the highest Christian standards of courtesy,
kindness, morality, and honesty. No one (child or adult) has the right to interfere with another person’s right
to learn, think, create, play and worship.
Misbehavior is normally
handled by the classroom teacher, however repeated or severe misbehavior is managed by the principal or School Board.
Detentions, if needed, are served at 7:00am on the Wednesday morning nearest to the date the detention has been earned.
Grade Reporting/Conferences
Official
Parent-Teacher Conferences are held twice a year, in the fall and spring. However, parents can request a conference at anytime
to discuss student progress or concerns and we encourage this personal interaction between teachers and parents.
Gethsemane uses an on-line grading and report card system. Parents are able to check
their child's progress daily through this system. Report Cards are issued on-line at the end of each quarter.
